Formula and limits

What a pour cost calculator measures

A pour cost calculator turns four inputs into two outputs. Cost per pour is (bottle cost / ounces per bottle) times pour ounces. Pour cost percent is cost per pour divided by drink price. Those numbers are a sketch for one drink. They are not a weekly inventory result.

Period pour cost uses a counted window: (beginning inventory + purchases minus ending inventory) / beverage sales. That is the formula on /docs/pour-cost-method and the number ExactPour keeps after a barcode count. Use this page to price a spec. Use a finished count to judge the week.

Worked example (labeled as an example)

Example only, not a customer metric. A 750 ml bottle costs $28. That bottle holds about 25.4 fluid ounces. A 1.5 ounce pour costs (28 / 25.4) x 1.5 = $1.65. Sold at $12, pour cost percent is 1.65 / 12 = 13.8%.

Change any input and the result changes. A $1 bottle increase or a heavier pour moves the percent. The calculator does not assign a cause. Comps, overpours, mix, and a late count can all move a weekly number.

When to graduate from the calculator

Keep this tool while you are pricing a drink or checking a recipe card. Move to ExactPour when you need the sales half of the loop: Toast, Square, Clover, or GoTab tickets compared to a physical count. New accounts get one 14-day Pro trial. Nothing is charged unless you add a payment method. Plans are Starter $69, Pro $99, and Scale $129 per month in USD. See /pricing.

Pour cost calculator questions

Is this the same math as a full inventory period?
No. The per-drink calculator uses bottle cost, ounces per bottle, pour size, and drink price. The period formula is (beginning inventory + purchases minus ending inventory) / sales. See /docs/pour-cost-method. ExactPour keeps the fuller weekly picture from your counts and POS.
Does a leaky feel mean theft?
No. A leaky feel can be comps, overpours, timing, or a week that simply got away. The calculator does not assign a cause.
Do I have to leave my POS?
No. ExactPour is built as a companion for rooms that already live in Toast, Square, Clover, or GoTab.
